Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most awaited Hindu festivals of the year. Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day festival that commemorates the birth of the elephant-headed god Ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the Chaturthi or Purnima Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Friday, September 6, 2024. The Muhurta Puja of Ganesh Puja on this day is between 3:01 pm to 5:33 pm.
Clean the house before Ganesh Chaturthi arrives and make sure it is neat and clean. Wake up early in the morning on Ganesh Chaturthi and take a holy bath. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is a joyous and important festival. All the family members should work together and perform the puja together to get blessings.
Get Ganesha Idol
There are three ways to worship Lord Ganesha. Some people use a picture, statue or idol already present in their puja room to perform the rituals. You can also make the idol out of clay or turmeric with the help of your family members. Ganesha idols (statues) or new statues can be purchased from shops and pandals. This is the most commonly used option in most homes. Every year, people look for a new idol to use in prayers and rituals during the ten days of the festival.
Prepare the Altar for Lord Ganesha
Prepare a seat for Lord Ganesha on an elevated platform or a traditional puja altar at home. Create a rangoli in front of the altar. Cover the base or platform with a nice cloth. Place the Ganesha image/idol on the puja altar.
Ganesh Puja
Cinnamon or coconut oil can be used to light the lamp. Gather family members in front of the altar and light incense sticks.
Holy water can be used to bathe the idol (if the idol’s material is suitable for water). Rose water, sandalwood paste, coconut water, honey, panchamrit and others can be used. After the holy bath, wipe the idol with a clean cloth. Sandalwood paste, vermilion, clothes, jewellery, flowers and garlands should be used to decorate the image of Ganesha. Chant Ganesha mantras and place flowers at the feet.
